Install Sana Orchestrator (Optional)

 NOTE

Applies to: Sana 9.3.4 and higher

Installation of Sana Orchestrator is optional.

The Sana web store connects to Microsoft Dynamics GP through the Web service using the GP user that is linked to the Active Directory User Account. Web service calls use the credentials of this user to log in and use the business logic of Microsoft Dynamics GP. If you have a high-traffic web store, Microsoft Dynamics GP may not handle a huge number of simultaneous requests as it cannot process concurrently several Web service calls using the same user. The Web service calls are generated faster than Microsoft Dynamics GP can process them. This is a known issue in Microsoft Dynamics GP if you use Service Based Architecture (SBA) and Web services to integrate GP with third-party solutions like Sana. With the Sana Orchestrator you can work around this limitation.

Using the Sana Orchestrator, you can create a Sana Orchestrator Web service and a pool of users that will be used to process concurrently all Web service calls from Sana to Microsoft Dynamics GP instead of the GP Web service.

 NOTE

Sana Orchestrator for Microsoft Dynamics GP does not affect performance. It is only responsible for allocation of Active Directory User Accounts from a created pool of users for the Web service in order to avoid compilation of simultaneous Sana requests.

Each Active Directory User Account from a pool of users must have a full user license for communication between Sana and Microsoft Dynamics GP via the Web service. One Microsoft Dynamics GP full user license for a pool of users is not enough. It is a responsibility of a customer's dedicated GP reseller or partner to obtain the required user licenses.

This manual provides the information on how to install the Sana Orchestrator using the Sana Installer.

 NOTE

The Sana Installer can be downloaded from the Sana Community website. Only the registered Sana partners can access Sana Community.

Prerequisites

Before installing the Sana Orchestrator, check the following prerequisites:

  • Service Based Architecture must be installed for Microsoft Dynamics GP.
  • Microsoft Dynamics GP users (Active Directory User Accounts) must be created.
  • The Sana Installer for Microsoft Dynamics GP must be downloaded from the Sana Community website.
  • Sana add-on must be already installed into Microsoft Dynamics GP.

Install Sana Orchestrator

Step 1: Run the "Sana Installer for Microsoft Dynamics GP" on the server where Microsoft Dynamics GP Web service is installed. Click "Install Sana Orchestrator (Optional)".

Step 2: Enter the SQL Server and database names and login information in order to create a database.

The table below provides the description of the fields necessary to create a database.

Field Description
SQL Server Name Enter the SQL Server name where Microsoft Dynamics GP database is located.
New Database Name Enter the SQL database name for the Sana Orchestrator. The Sana Installer creates a separate database for the Sana Orchestrator which stores the users that are used to process all Web service calls.
Authentication Type Select the necessary authentication type, either Windows or SQL.
UserName If you choose SQL Authentication for the Sana Orchestrator database, then you need to enter the credentials of the SQL user that will be used to access the database.
Password

When you enter all required database information, click Create Database. The Sana Installer will create a database for the Sana Orchestrator. Then, click Next.

Step 3: On the next step, click on the User Management Website link. Sana Orchestrator creates a website where you can add all required users. Clicking on this link, opens the user management website created by the Sana Orchestrator.

Step 4: On the user management website create all required users. You must add the users which exist in your Microsoft Dynamics GP system and linked to the Active Directory User Accounts. Make sure to enter the correct credentials (username and password). They must be the same as the credentials of the Active Directory User Accounts. These users will be saved to the Sana Orchestrator database and used to process concurrently all Web service calls from Sana to Microsoft Dynamics GP.

For more information about how to create the GP users, see "Create GP User".

When you add the GP users (Active Directory Account Users) on the user management website, click Next in the Sana Installer for Microsoft Dynamics GP.

Step 5: On the next step enter the necessary data to create the Sana Orchestrator Web service.

The table below provides the description of the fields necessary to create the Sana Orchestrator Web service.

Field Description
Web Service Name Enter the name of the Sana Orchestrator Web service. You can use any name for the Web service.
GP Web Service URL Enter the URL of the GP Web service which is used to establish connection between Sana and Microsoft Dynamics GP.
For more information about GP Web service, see "Test GP Web Service".
Port Number You can use the automatically generated port number or enter your own port number. This port is used to listen for all requests made through the Sana Orchestrator Web service.
User Domain Enter the user domain for the Sana Orchestrator Web service.
Log File Location Specify the path to the folder where all Sana Orchestrator Web service logs will be recorded. In the "Properties" of the selected folder add the "Write" permissions to the group of Active Directory User Accounts created on the user management website. This is necessary in order to record the Sana Orchestrator Web service logs to this folder.

When you enter all required Web service information, click Create Web Service. The Sana Installer will create the Sana Orchestrator Web service. Then, click Next.

Step 6: On the Users and Web Service step you can see the URLs of the User Management Website and Sana Orchestrator Web Service.

You can use the user management website at any time to manage the users for the Sana Orchestrator Web service.

When the Sana Orchestrator Web service is installed, you need to enter its URL in the ERP connection settings in Sana Admin instead of the GP Web service URL and test connection between Sana and Microsoft Dynamics GP.

Also, enter the credentials of the Active Directory User Account (Windows account) which is used to log in to the server where the Web service is installed. It is not obligatory to add this user to Microsoft Dynamics GP or to the user management website.

The Sana Orchestrator Web service and a pool of users added at the user management website will be used to process concurrently all Web service calls from Sana to Microsoft Dynamics GP instead of the GP Web service.
