Configure Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Server

When you run Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Setup and install Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Server, you can use the default configuration information or provide configuration information at once that is then used as the configuration for the default Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Server instance.

After you have installed Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Server, you can change any of the settings you provided during Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central setup, using the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Server Administration tool.

This is a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in for creating and managing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Server instances:

A Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Server instance is the service through which various types of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central clients interact with the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Cental SQL Server database. When you install Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Server on a computer, there is initially a single default instance Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Server. If you need additional instances, then you can either install Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Server on additional computers or create additional instances on the same Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Server computer.

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Server Administration tool, settings for a server instance are organized into tabs and by service type.

The following table provides the required Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Server settings which should be configured:

Tab Setting  Description
General Credential Type Specifies the authentication mechanism for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central users of the related Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Server instance.

The available credential types:

  • Windows
  • Username
  • NavUserPassword
  • AccessControlService

Default: Windows

General Services Default Time Zone Specifies the time zone in which Web service calls are running. The value of the Services Default Time Zone should be set to UTC.
General Services Language Specify the global language version to use for text strings with SOAP web services.

The value must be valid culture name for a language that is available for the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central solution, for example en-US.

The services language should be the same as the default language of the Sana web store. To avoid any problems with date formats the best solution is to have the default language of the Sana web store, the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central services language and the language of the server on which Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Server is installed are all the same.

Database Database Instance The name of the SQL Server database instance to connect to.

Default: NAVDEMO

Database Database Name The name of the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central database in SQL Server.

Default: Demo Database

Database Database Server A valid network name for the computer running SQL Server.

Default: The computer that you selected in Business Central Setup.

Client Services Enable Client Services

Specifies whether client services are enabled for this Business Central Server instance.

Default: Enabled

Client Services Port The listening HTTP port for client services.

Default: 7046

SOAP Services Enable SOAP Services Specifies whether SOAP web services are enabled for the related Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Server instance.

Default: Enabled

SOAP Services Port  The listening HTTP port for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central SOAP web services.

Default: 7047
